The Taft Middle School Band has had a tremendously successful 2009 - 2010 school year. A record number of band students have earned placement in various honor groups, and have competed in solo contest with a record number of Superior Ratings. For the first time at Taft, both concert bands have earned top marks at concert band contest. In addition to all the competing, the newly formed Taft Drumline enjoyed their OKCPS school tour this year, promoting Taft Middle School to our learning community. The Taft Drumline is an extra curricular ensemble, open by audition, to any student enrolled in the Taft band program. The students pictured here rehearsed after school 2 to 3 days per week for at least 2 hours per rehearsal in order to prepare for their drumline tour. An interesting fact is that none of the students in the Taft Drumline have percussion as their primary instrument. All drumline students are all wind players first. They learned percussive techniques with Mr. Lehew in drumline rehearsal before and after school.
